As the largest island in the seven Canary Islands of the Atlantic Ocean off the African coast, Tenerife is a popular destination for tourists and casual vacationers alike, particularly those who came from the United Kingdom. The mass tourism boom, which happened as people started taking advantage of inexpensive flights to Tenerife.

For tourists who have decided on booking Tenerife island holidays this time of the year, luck is certainly on their side, since Tourism is the most prominent industry in the Canaries. Tenerife itself is one of the most famous major tourist destinations in the world. In 2006 alone, more than nine million tourists have already visited the canaries. It has been stated that the majority of tourists who visit the Canaries came from the United Kingdom, where cheap flights to Tenerife are very easy to obtain.

The southern part of the island is a little bit hotter and drier than the rest, which prompted the need for many well-equipped resorts such as the Los Cristianos and the Playa de las Americas. What makes it even better for tourists is the fact that the Canarian Parliament has passed the Moratoria act. The act forbids any hotels to be built on the island unless they are classified and rated as 5-star in quality. It also mandates the presence of different services such as Golf courses and Congress facilities.

In terms of transport, two major airports, the Tenerife North Airport (TFN) and the Tenerife South Airport (TFS) serve the island. Upon reaching the northern airport, called Rodeos Airport, you can easily take a train ride straight to Santa Cruz-La Laguna, which is a metropolitan area and has inter-insular flights as well as national and cheap European flights. Recently, they have also started offering a weekly service to Venezuela. Not that a lot of flights to Tenerife tend to arrive in the Rodeos airport, since it is the smaller of the two major airports.
